Wine Pairings for Easter

Spring brings holiday and seasonal treats to the table so it got me thinking about wines to pair with some traditional food favorites.

I’ll start with the time-honored family get-together main dish: ham. When I’m serving ham, I go for a wine that will balance its sweet-saltiness. I like to serve a fruity Merlot- or Cabernet-based Rosé or maybe a light Pinot Noir.

Lamb is a popular choice to headline a springtime spread. I recommend pairing it with a Northern Rhone Syrah or a Southern Rhone blend such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape. These wines really complement the mildly gamey essence of lamb. Also, a good Pinot Noir will pair nicely with lamb that’s been prepared using earthy herbs like Rosemary.

Wine doesn’t just have to be for dinner. Easter brunch deserves a great wine, too.  To complement rich brunch foods like omelets and other egg creations, try a light sparkling wine like Italian Prosecco or Spanish Cava. These crisp and refreshing wines are also delicious with a splash of orange juice. There’s nothing as cheerful as an effervescent mimosa and springtime brunch!

Let’s celebrate the freshness of the season with scrumptious food and fantastic wine!

Cheers!
